Meet the Edmonton Book Bloggers! Spotlight on Reading in Winter
Reading in Winter is having a month-long first blogiversary celebration! This week’s feature is a profile of Edmonton book bloggers, including yours truly. Today, I’ve turned the tables and asked Kristilyn the same questions she asked each of us. Here’s a look at one of Edmonton’s most prolific readers and bloggers. Enjoy!
Psst… Are you a book blogger in the Edmonton area? Head on over to Reading in Winter and get in touch with Kristilyn if you’d like to be added to the Edmonton Book Bloggers Directory!
Meet: Kristilyn from Reading in Winter
My name is Kristilyn and I run the blog Reading In Winter. It was started up many years ago as an attempt for me to remember what I was reading and in the past year it has morphed into something I love and cherish. I read a great variety of books and love posting reviews, discussions, and even music about what I’m reading. When I’m not reading, I like to curl up and watch my favourite TV shows, play my piano loudly, or play with my dogs.
1. What is your favourite genre?
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite genre because I am ALL OVER THE PLACE when it comes to reading! Lately, I’m really liking ghost story-type books, whether they focus on haunted places or ghost hunters. I also really love Paranormal romance, as well as YA contemporary books.
2. Name 3 of your favourite authors.
This one is TOUGH! I would have to say Lisa Genova, Emily Giffin, and Sophie Kinsella. Seeing as they’re all adult contemporary or chick lit and I’ve been reading more books outside of that genre, I would pick Karina Halle, Aimee Carter, and Stephanie Perkins for books outside of adult contemporary or chick lit.
3. What book are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Old Blood, which is book #5.5 in the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle, as well as The Humming Room, by Ellen Potter.
4. What is your favourite Canadian city?
While I love living in the country on the outskirts of Edmonton, I really love Canmore and Kananaskis (both in Alberta), as well as Victoria, B.C. Last year I vacationed in Victoria and I love that it’s right by the water, there’s plenty of seafood to eat, the museum is gorgeous, and it has so much great history and places to visit.
5. What book could you read over and over again?
I could read ANYTHING by Stephanie Perkins over and over again. Her books make me smile. I could also read the Harry Potter books over and over again — in fact, I’m working on listening my way through the series right now for the second time. I know some might laugh, but Twilight is a book I’ve read NUMEROUS times. It was the book that got me into reading as voraciously as I do now, as well as the book that got me loving the YA genre.
6. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Definitely the people. When I restarted my blog last year, I realized I had finally found my place in the online community. The book blogging community is amazing! They’re always there to help, to talk to, and — most importantly — to share the love of books and reading. Had I not found such a great community, I’m not sure where I would be right now, or if I would even be blogging these days. I’ve made some great friends and hope to make many more in the years to come.
Thank you Laura, for having me on your blog!
What a great idea, Laura! (Wish I had thought about it…LOL).
I feel like we owe Kristilyn so much! If it wasn’t for her, most of us wouldn’t have met and we wouldn’t have the support of one another or a really awesome FB group 🙂
Agree! I’ve followed her blog for a long time and have a lot of respect – she’s obviously very thoughtful about her blog and very dedicated!
The group is just another level of awesome. Who would have thought we’d all have so much to discuss lol.
I was lucky she found me 🙂 Did you know Kristilyn before Adam “introduced” us?
I am blanking out on who Adam is!
Nope, I just follow lots of people on Twitter 🙂
You know Adam! He’s @theleanover 🙂
Oh yeah, of course! I just don’t remember how I started talking to you guys. Short term memory fail!
Haha! He tweeted at us…something like: “brie…have you met Laura…you both have book blogs!”. LOL. It was kinda awkward, but awesome too. 🙂
OH now I remember. My poor brain….
*blush*
Aww … thanks guys! 🙂
